Although the ICS is not and cannot be a primary source on this subject, we want to make our members aware of relevant information that has been published by the CDC. The spread of this virus has particular implications for physician offices, as both health care providers and as employers.

HIPAA Security Rule Compliance
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) was implemented in four different phases to ensure compliance. The latest portion of HIPAA is the SECURITY RULE, which went into effect on April 21, 2005. All providers, except for small health plans, should have been in compliance by April 20, 2005. The exception for small health plans mandates that they must be compliant no later than April 20 of 2006.

2017 Legislative Session Wrap-Up
The 2017 Legislative Session began in January. There were over 2200 Senate Bills and 4000 House Bills introduced. Throughout the session, the ICS staff reviewed the legislation to address any concerns or impact on the chiropractic profession.
