The numbers
150 hours per renewal cycle
Required of every Illinois chiropractic physician for each three-year renewal period — cycles ending July 31, 2026, 2029, 2032, and 2035.
60+
Minimum hours of Category I
Category I CME is the required formal portion of Illinois continuing medical education, consisting of 60 hours in each three-year license cycle and completed through approved sponsors, including any mandated courses.

Maximum hours of Category II
Category II CME includes informal professional learning activities such as online searching, use of electronic databases in patient care, consultation with peers or experts, teaching health professionals, medical writing, self-assessment, preceptorships, peer review or quality assurance work, preparing educational exhibits, and reading authoritative medical literature.

Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse: Training for Mandated Reporters* 1 hour
* Although the law requires mandated reporter training to be completed every 6 years, the Illinois Chiropractic Society strongly encourages chiropractic physicians to complete the mandated reporter education every 3 years (with each renewal) as a best practice.
