ALERT: Fraudulent IDFPR Emails Targeting Illinois Licensees

ALERT: Fraudulent IDFPR Emails Targeting Illinois Licensees

The Illinois Chiropractic Society (ICS) wants to bring your immediate attention to a critical issue affecting licensed chiropractic physicians (and other licensed professionals) in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has received reports that licensees may be receiving fraudulent emails from sources impersonating IDFPR officials.

Beware of Fake IDFPR Emails

The fraudulent emails appear to come from an individual acting as an IDFPR Administrative and Finance Coordinator, requesting follow-up responses to previously sent correspondence. These emails are deceptive, often including official-looking IDFPR content such as logos, website links, and misleading or incorrect contact information.

Specifically, the fraudulent emails seem to originate from the following sender:

  • Fraudulent Email Address: idfprillinois-d7b1953d9925-autonotifidfpr
  • Fraudulent Additional Contact Listed: Christian.REComplaint

What You Should Do and Not Do

  • DO NOT respond to these emails.
  • DO NOT provide any personal, licensing, or financial information.
  • DO NOT click on any links or download attachments from these emails.
  • VERIFY any official-appearing communication by directly contacting IDFPR through official channels, such as logging in to your IDFPR account, rather than clicking on a link contained in an email.

If you receive one of these emails or have concerns regarding similar communications, you can report it directly to IDFPR’s Public Information Officer, Christopher Slaby, at Christopher.Slaby@illinois.gov.

Stay Vigilant and Protect Your Information

Cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and scammers continue to evolve their tactics to exploit professionals. However, keeping alert to common scams can prevent you from becoming a victim.

How to Watch for Email Scams:

Here are a few steps to help you protect yourself and your practice.

  • Be skeptical of urgent messages – Scammers try to create panic with warnings about account suspensions or limited-time offers.
  • Check the sender’s email address – Look for misspellings, strange domains, or small changes that mimic real addresses.
  • Hover over links before clicking – Preview the URL to ensure it leads to a legitimate website, not a fake one.
  • Never provide sensitive information – Legitimate companies will never ask for personal details, passwords, Social Security numbers, or payment info via email.
  • Don’t download attachments from unknown senders – These may contain malware or viruses.
  • Avoid replying to suspicious emails – Engaging with scammers can confirm your email is active, leading to more scams.
  • Go directly to official websites – Instead of clicking links in emails, type the company’s URL into your browser.
  • Use a trusted contact number – If in doubt, call the organization using a number from their official website, not the one in the email.
  • Enable spam filters and keep software updated – This helps block scam emails and protects against security threats.

By staying alert and following these precautions, you can reduce the risk of falling for email scams.
