San Jose, CA. – July 28, 2020 –The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the value of chiropractic care, recently announced several highly visible earned media placements, as well as industry awards and public engagement achievements that are raising awareness and knowledge of chiropractic care.

“The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress continues to change the healthcare landscape for the better by sharing evidence and other information about the important work our doctors do in relieving their patients’ pain, improving their mobility and helping them achieve their health goals,” said Sherry McAllister, DC, executive vice president of F4CP. “With the entire world focused on health and well-being during the pandemic, it presents an enormous opportunity for us to continue this momentum and educate an even broader audience about the health and economic benefits that chiropractic care delivers.”

Recent media and public engagement achievements include:

Cost Savings Awareness

F4CP continues to earn article placements in leading industry and consumer publications. Most recently, articles about how chiropractic care can reduce healthcare spending and improve employee performance have appeared in Healthcare Business Today and Employee Benefit News while one of its recent white papers was featured by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), which is health insurers’ largest industry group.

Consumer Awareness

In early 2020, the F4CP launched a new campaign to support its nearly 29,000 members during the pandemic titled, “Enhancing Your Health Through Chiropractic Care.” COVID-relevant resources were created and digital advertisements were placed on Google, Facebook and Instagram.

F4CP has continuously sponsored National Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month each September. The annual designation is an opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of prescription opioids and over-the-counter pain medications, along with the benefits of drug-free options, such as chiropractic care, to safely and effectively relieve acute, subacute and, as appropriate, chronic pain. To recognize the special month this year, F4CP conducted a survey of Americans in Generation Z (ages 18 to 24) about their chronic pain. The encouraging results from the survey, to be highlighted in a press release, blog and infographic, are that Generation Z is highly receptive to chiropractic care and other drug-free and natural pain management methods.

Additionally, the F4CP has been quoted in mainstream consumer media such as NBC NewsThrive Global and more.

Policy Support

F4CP was the “Paradigm Shifter” supporter for the Alliance to Advance Comprehensive Integrative Pain Management’s (AACIPM) virtual symposium, Innovation & Progress in Person-Centered Pain Management, which was held in May 2020. The two-day, virtual symposium included a careful selection of the nation’s leading examples of innovation and progress which support advancing a cultural shift to evidence-informed, whole-person-oriented pain management featuring multi-disciplinary, team-based approaches.

Award Recognition

F4CP has garnered five awards since 2019. Most recently, F4CP was selected as a winner in the 22nd annual Digital Health Awards® program. This competition recognizes the world’s best digital health information resources. It is organized by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for professionals who work in consumer health fields. The F4CP is also a finalist in PR Daily’s 2020 Nonprofit PR Awards, recognizing nonprofit communications teams creating influential campaigns. In 2019, F4CP was named a PR World Award® Gold Winner in the healthcare category for its campaign to educate consumers about the dangers of opioids and benefits of drug-free chiropractic care. Similarly, the F4CP received honorable mention recognition from Ragan’s Health Care PR and Marketing Awards, one of the public relations industry’s top honors, in the Community Outreach category for its “Save Lives, Stop Opioid Abuse, Choose Chiropractic” campaign. Lastly in 2019, Dr. McAllister was named to PR News’ inaugural list of the Top Women in Healthcare for 2019. The prestigious award recognizes the most innovative women leaders in the healthcare sector from agencies, corporations, and nonprofits.

Educational Institution Awareness

In 2019, Dr. McAllister presented about chiropractic care at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore. Her presentation is now utilized in the course curriculum for Nurse Practitioners at the University. This presentation directly resulted in the F4CP’s opportunity to place an ad series about chiropractic care in The Journal for Nurse Practitioners, reaching another new audience. The year before, F4CP participated in a multidisciplinary panel discussion on non-opioid care pathways for pain management at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University, which included chiropractic care as a key component; the First Annual Colorado Consortium Education Symposium at Anschutz Medical Campus in Colorado highlighting the benefits of chiropractic care to medical students and medical doctors, among other healthcare providers; a roundtable at Brown University in Rhode Island which articulated the role of drug-free care, including chiropractic, to manage pain. Additionally, the F4CP had a seat at the table during an Academy of Integrative Pain Management event held at Harvard University.

Summer Olympics TV Ads

Postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19, the Summer Olympics will feature a 30-second commercial created by the F4CP. The commercial is scheduled to air five times on the NBC Networks, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE), with the intent to inspire a career as a doctor of chiropractic (DC), as well as to motivate consumers to seek chiropractic care. The five placements will reach over 204 million individuals.
“Like nearly all other industries, chiropractic and other forms of healthcare delivery have been significantly disrupted by the pandemic,” Dr. McAllister said. “We will nevertheless continue our mission to spread the word among healthcare professionals, business leaders, government officials, and consumers about the benefits of chiropractic care. While we have accomplished much during these uncertain times, everyone at the Foundation is very much looking forward to a bright future ahead and we extend our deepest appreciation to our members and sponsors for their generous support and collaboration.”
