The Illinois Chiropractic Society understands the current challenges for our doctors and their practices. The number of changes that have happened and are coming in the next year are simply daunting: BCBS/Orthonet, NGS taking over Medicare in Illinois, HIPAA Omnibus Rule changes, Insurance Marketplace new offerings, other Affordable Care Act implementations, EHR deadlines, license renewals, CME deadline, and sweeping changes to diagnosis codes (ICD-10). However, we will continue to make sure that our members are kept up-to-date regarding all of these coming changes.

On September 7, 2013, National Government Services (NGS) took over the contract as a carrier for processing claims and adjudication of Medicare in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Wisconsin Physician Services (WPS) was our former carrier for as long as I can remember. It is just a change in carriers, right? After all, it is still Medicare. Or is it?

New Medicare Administrative Contractor: National Government Services (NGS)

The Jurisdiction 6 (Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin) contract was awarded to National Government Services (NGS) on September 27, 2012, the cutover/transition date of September 7th, 2013 is quickly approaching. The ICS has scheduled several Medicare courses throughout the state to assist chiropractic physicians and staff with this transition.

The Illinois Chiropractic Society is proud to be working with Army OneSource to raise awareness of the unique challenges of Military life on our Service Members and their Families and to address the growing need for accessible health services. The program, titled “Healing Hands 4 Heroes,” invites chiropractors to learn about the stresses and challenges our service members and their families are facing as a result of multiple deployments. Thanks to the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA), Healing Hands 4 Heroes is spreading across the nation.

It has already been a busy year for Illinois chiropractic physicians in a variety of ways, not the least of which is the passage of two major pieces of legislation. This August 2011 edition of the ICS Journal is appropriately titled “A Breath of Fresh Air.” As an idiom, this phrase indicates a new, fresh, and imaginative approach. The ICS has taken a new approach to legislative issues, oxygen therapies, scope of practice, education and now soldiers – our heroes.
