Minimum Wage Changes:  County and City of Chicago – July 1, 2023

Minimum Wage Changes:  County and City of Chicago – July 1, 2023

Minimum Wage laws in Illinois are becoming increasingly complex due to step increases under Illinois law and ordinances passed by both Chicago and Cook County.  Although the statewide minimum wage law is not changing, on July 1, 2023, both Cook County and Chicago minimum wages are increasing, so practices located in those locations must implement these changes effective July 1.  However, for practices located in other areas of Illinois, the next statewide increase will occur on January 1, 2024.

The Illinois Chiropractic Society is providing a simplified chart to help doctors determine the appropriate minimum wage for their locations.

4-20 Employees$15.00$13.70$13.00

* Several municipalities have opted out of the minimum wage ordinance in Cook County. Of the approximately 130 municipalities in Cook County, over 100 of them have opted out of the ordinance. Chiropractic physicians practicing in Cook County should contact either the Village Clerk or the City Clerk of the municipality where they practice to find out if the municipality has opted out of the Cook County Minimum Wage Ordinance and to verify the applicable minimum wage in the municipality.
