Medicare Carrier (NGS) for Illinois to Rebrand as Wellpoint Federal
The Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) that serves our state, National Government Services (NGS), has announced that it will officially transition to a new name, Wellpoint Federal, effective April 1, 2026.
While this is a significant branding change, it is important to understand that it does not represent an immediate shift in operations, policies, or provider requirements.
What This Means for Your Practice
Illinois chiropractic physicians should continue working with the MAC exactly as they do today.
NGS/Wellpoint Federal has confirmed the following:
- There are no immediate changes to provider portals, including NGSConnex and NGSMedicare.com.
- Claims submission, eligibility verification, and provider communication processes remain unchanged.
- Existing contacts, systems, and workflows will continue to function as usual during the transition.
- Wellpoint will communicate other changes introduced throughout the year.
This means there is no immediate action required from chiropractic physicians or their staff.
What to Watch For
Although operations remain stable, doctors should expect to see the new Wellpoint Federal name begin to appear across communications, websites, and materials after April 1, 2026.
As the transition progresses, additional updates may include:
- Branding changes within provider portals and correspondence
- Updates to email domains or mailing addresses
- Future system or process enhancements tied to the new organization
Advance notice will be provided before any changes that require chiropractic physician action.
Staying Informed
ICS encourages all members to remain attentive to communications from the Medicare carrier and to ensure that billing and administrative staff are aware of this transition.
The Illinois Chiropractic Society will continue to track this transition closely and provide timely updates to ensure your practice remains compliant and prepared.
