CPR Certification Requirements

Is CPR Required for Chiropractic Physicians?

Recently, many chiropractic physicians in the Chicagoland area received a marketing letter for CPR classes. The letter incorrectly stated “CPR certification for license renewal” is required.

In short, there is no statutory or regulatory requirement for Illinois chiropractic physicians to maintain CPR certification.

However, many PPO agreements require PPO providers to maintain CPR certification either through the American Heart Association or the Red Cross. Please check your contracts and review all requirements.

Even where not required by PPO provider agreement, the Illinois Chiropractic Society highly recommends for our doctors to maintain an active CPR certification as good practice for themselves and for staff.
