Member Spotlight: Joseph Ferstl, D.C., FACO
The Illinois Chiropractic Society is pleased to highlight Dr. Joseph (Joe) Ferstl for his outstanding service to the association and the profession. He has been a loyal ICS member since 1985 and has distinguished himself for many years in both professional leadership and practice.
Dr. Ferstl was awarded Doctor of Chiropractic and Bachelor of Science degrees from National College of Chiropractic in 1981. He obtained chiropractic licensure in both Illinois and Colorado and successfully completed postgraduate education as a Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedics (FACO). He maintained a busy private practice for over 35 years, where he used his advanced training to help patients with orthopedic and sports injuries.

While owning and operating his practice, Dr. Ferstl generously volunteered his time in ICS governance, starting as Director-at-Large and serving in every board position up to and including his election as ICS Board President. His input and leadership were highly regarded as thoughtful and independent, as he consistently held the chiropractic profession and patients as his foremost priorities. His accomplishments were formally acknowledged in 2018 when Dr. Ferstl was honored as ICS Chiropractic Physician of the Year.
Dr. Ferstl’s professional activities are numerous, including the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedics (Distinguished Service Award), the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (Outstanding Service Award), the Council on Chiropractic Orthopedics, the American College of Chiropractic Consultants, the American Chiropractic Association (Medicare Consortium), and the DELPHI Panel of the Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters. Dr. Ferstl’s robust participation and recognition demonstrate his longstanding commitment to a high standard of evidence-based care.
