Medicare Claims on Hold Amid Pending Congressional Action

Medicare Claims on Hold Amid Pending Congressional Action

According to a CMS announcement yesterday, October 15, Medicare payments for many services, including those billed by chiropractic physicians, are currently delayed as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awaits Congressional action on expired legislative payment provisions. This development affects claims with dates of service on or after October 1, 2025, and includes services provided by chiropractic physicians.

What This Means for Chiropractic Physicians in Illinois

Chiropractic physicians may continue to submit Medicare claims for services rendered on or after October 1, 2025. However, payment for these services is temporarily on hold and will not be released until Congress acts to reauthorize the expired provisions. This situation results from the lapse of Medicare payment policies previously extended under the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025.

Although claim submission remains open, the Illinois Chiropractic Society recommends that offices review cash flow and prepare for potential short-term reimbursement delays.

The Illinois Chiropractic Society will continue monitoring developments and will update members as new information becomes available.
