Unlike criminal convictions for crimes of a forcible or sexual nature, some convictions are not per se bars to licensure. The Department has adopted rules that permit a person with a criminal record, who seeks a professional license in an occupation for which a criminal record is not a per se bar, to apply to the Department for a nonbinding advisory opinion as to whether the applicant's criminal record would bar the individual from licensure. Only persons who otherwise meet all other licensure requirements, including successful completion of the relevant examinations, may request opinions under this section.
