By rule, examinations must be given twice a year. Once an application is filed, if the applicant fails without an approved excuse to take the next available examination offered, then the application is denied and the application fee forfeited. Note that application denials are reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank and are treated as discipline, so in no case should an applicant simply fail to appear for the examination without explanation.
