2018 Chiropractic Physician of the Year Award: Dr. Joe Ferstl, DC, FACO
2018 Presidential Community Service Award: Dr. William Rasmussen, III DC
2018 John “Doc” Davidson Political Action Award: Dr. Brandon Steele, DC DACO
2018 Chiropractic Physician of the Year Award: Dr. Joe Ferstl, DC, FACO
Dr. Joe Ferstl, DC, FACO was honored this past weekend as the 2018 Chiropractic Physician of the Year. Dr. Ferstl, a full-time practitioner in Elgin, Illinois, was selected for his service to the patients, profession, and community. Recipients of the ICS Chiropractic Physician of the Year are physicians who “go above and beyond” for their local community and for the chiropractic profession.
Dr. Ferstl has been a strong advocate for the profession. He has served in various roles at the ICS, including ICS Board of Directors President, Board of Directors 1st Vice President, Board of Directors Secretary, District President, and District Vice President. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors as a Past President. His leadership and commitment during his tenure on the ICS Board of Directors have been invaluable.
Additionally, while fulfilling his Board duties, he scheduled and attended countless meetings with legislators and out of state meetings regarding chiropractic and served as the President of the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedics. Dr. Ferstl truly cares about the chiropractic profession and spends numerous hours advocating on our behalf.
In addition to his commitment to advocacy, Dr. Ferstl has demonstrated his dedication to high practice standards by holding diplomates from both the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists and the American Board of Chiropractic Consultants. He is one of only a few persons who hold both diplomates, further demonstrating his commitment to the profession.

2018 ICS Presidential Community Service Award: Dr. William Rasmussen III, DC
Dr. William D. Rasmussen III, DC, was honored this past weekend with the 2018 ICS Presidential Community Service Award. Dr. Rasmussen, full-time, practitioner in Chicago, Illinois, was selected for his strong service and commitment to the veterans in his community. This award is given to doctors who have demonstrated a high level of service to their communities and to communities around the world.
Dr. Rasmussen is a veteran of the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, he worked in orthopedics at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. He received training and earned his flight crew wings as a search air rescue member (helicopter) at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas; field medical service at Camp Pendleton, California; and medical technology at Portsmouth, Virginia. He then served a tour of duty in Okinawa with the 3rd Marine Division.
Dr. Rasmussen currently serves on the Tinley Park Veterans Commission. He spends innumerable hours on programs and efforts that further raise awareness of the veteran community. In 2017, he received the Colonel David G. Seamen Volunteer Veterans Recognition Award. This prestigious award honors those individuals who provide hours of volunteering and efforts that bring awareness of the contributions of military personnel to the community.
The chiropractic profession is elevated by having doctors who serve not only the profession but their communities. We would like to thank and honor Dr. William Rasmussen III for his commitment and service to his community and all veterans.
2018 John “Doc” Davidson Political Action Award: Dr. Brandon Steele, DC DACO
Dr. Brandon Steele, DC, DACO was awarded the John “Doc” Davidson Political Action Award. Dr. Steele is a full-time practitioner in Swansea, Illinois and was selected for his strong political activism on behalf of the chiropractic profession.
The John “Doc” Davidson Political Action Award is selected by the ICS staff and lobbying team. The award is to honor an individual who has gone above and beyond in his/her political advocacy efforts. The award is given only periodically. The award is named for long-time former State Senator and chiropractic physician John “Doc” Davidson.
Dr. Brandon Steele has advocated strongly for the profession. He is an articulate and persuasive ambassador for chiropractic and has been particularly effective in presenting information to public officials who may be unfamiliar with the full scope and potential of chiropractic medicine. He has made multiple trips to Springfield to testify before the legislature on issues affecting the profession and has been willing to participate in legislative conference calls that went late into the evening, often resulting in time away from patients and family.
Dr. Steele has also met with the Lieutenant Governor and the Assistant Director of Public Health regarding the opioid crisis. He has provided excellent materials and talking points on the role chiropractic can play in the opioid crisis.
Dr. Steele is always available to ICS staff to provide guidance from the physician perspective on issues that impact the chiropractic profession, and he has always made advancing the profession his highest priority.
