The ICS is aware of the many questions that our doctors have regarding injections and off-label use of supplements, homeopathic, and over-the-counter medications. We identify two different issues in these questions: 1) whether injections by chiropractic physicians are within scope of practice in Illinois; and 2) physician off-label use of non-prescription products.

Although the Medical Practice Act does not specifically address whether injections are within scope for chiropractic physicians in Illinois, the Act is clear that prescription drugs are not within scope. The ICS is not aware of any injectable supplements or other products that do not require a prescription. As a result, the ICS believes that injection of prescription supplements is not within scope.
