A.: Illinois allows for new chiropractic physician licensure by two different methods: acceptance of exam and endorsement. Acceptance of the exam is for a chiropractic graduate who has taken and passed the required parts of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners test and who has not been licensed in Illinois or another state. Endorsement (sometimes erroneously referred to as “reciprocity”) is the method for a chiropractic doctor who is already licensed in another state. Under endorsement, Illinois issues the license based on the other state license without requiring the doctor to take an additional exam. This method is available if the qualifications in the first state were substantially equivalent to Illinois’ requirements at the time the applicant was licensed in the first state.
Note: If you have 5 or more failures of any portion of the boards, the State of Illinois requires "remedial education” amounting to 960 hours (equivalent to one academic year) of additional education. Each portion of the exam that is failed in any jurisdiction counts as a failure.
