Occasionally we’ll get calls from our doctors to talk about work comp cases that they’re seeing in their practice. And they want to know, you know, can I balance billed a patient? Can I go after these particular charges? And a lot of that depends if the case is currently being heard at the Workers Compensation Commission, then no, you can’t collect during that timeframe, you can send reminders, but it cannot be in a request for payment primarily, because they’re still trying to determine is this case compensable under the work comp provisions? Or how is this ultimately going to settle out? And so a lot of times, then the provider is left hanging because they don’t know exactly what the status of the case is. So if you did not know, you can actually jump out to the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission website and track the case, you can actually see what its current progress is. So, the way you do that, as I’m going to include a link with this video down below, you can actually just jump on that. And you can go look at the case docket to determine exactly what is the status of that case, to make sure that you’re not collecting on a case it’s being heard at the work comp commission. Or if you’ve been told that it is you can actually find out the current status hasn’t been settled? Or is it just been reported? Or is it not even listed on the work comp yet, because it’s being handled by the insurer?

So we would encourage you to jump out there, take a look, and use the link down below. If you want a faster way to do it, you can actually just googled IWCC, probably the top link that’s going to come up for you is going to be the government site the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission. And at that stage, what you’re really looking for is you want to click on the comp file case, docket, search, the comp file case docket search. And that will take you where you need to be able to search those particular cases once you’re in and I’ll share my screen with you so you can see exactly what that is. Once you’re in, you can actually search by case number by petitioner, their first and last name, or by the respondent and you can find out exactly what the current status is of that particular case. Hopefully, this information helps you out and helps you determine what the status is for your patients’ cases. We’ll catch you next week.
