May Chiropractic Physicians advertise “physical therapy” in their offices?

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has advised the ICS in writing that chiropractic physicians may have advertising that they provide “physical therapy.”  The IDFPR has said that chiropractic physicians may advertise professional services that are within their scope of practice, and physical therapy is within scope.  Therefore, it is acceptable to use the term “physical therapy” in advertising. However, due to the Physical Therapy Act’s requirement that only physical therapy licensees may hold them out as physical therapists, the IDFPR does not permit chiropractic physicians to advertise that they are physical therapists.
