Mandated Reporter Education is required regardless of your CME needs or requirements. Illinois law states, “within 3 months of their date of engagement in a professional or official capacity as a mandated reporter.” This means that new licensees and those who have been in practice for 40 years must take this state-mandated and state-provided (free) education.

I truly hope you’re having a fantastic week, we wanted to touch base because we’re getting a number of questions surrounding some of the mandated education that is required for chiropractic physicians here in Illinois. And one of the areas that is very important is the mandated reporter training that is required. In fact, it’s more specifically, it’s mandated child abuse reporter training. And that, you know, a lot of these mandates have really been centered around CE. And although you can count the mandated reporter towards your CE, it’s actually a separate requirement and is required, in fact, to be performed very quickly after licensure. So once you receive your license, so new doctors that receive their license have three months to get this training. So you have to have the training within three months. So it does not go with the normal CE rules but instead has its own set of requirements, its own set of rules. And so we want to make sure that we give this full clarity for all of our doctors.

First of all, if you are practicing, and you’ve been practicing for greater than three months, actually, if you’ve been practicing at all, you want to make sure that you go ahead and get this training right now. The good news is the state of Illinois is providing the training through DCFS at no charge, so it is free, you can go out and get that training the fastest way just jump onto the ICS website and search for mandated reporter training. And at that stage, you’ll find the top article that will talk about the child abuse mandated reporter requirement in that there are links directly to the state also include them as a part of this video down below. So you can actually click on the article to get more information, and you can also click on the link to take you straight to the state-provided education.

Again, very important to remember once you receive your license because, at that point, you are what they consider to be you are considered to be engaged in your professional capacity, right? So once you have your license, at that stage, you are a physician and you would be engaged in your professional capacity, which is how the language of the Act is laid out. So our interpretation is pretty clear. And we believe that this is where the department also falls on this particular issue but you want to make sure that you go ahead and get that training within that three-month period. Again, it’s all free. There are no additional charges. We will include the links down below. Grab the training, and we’ll catch you next week.
