Chiropractic physicians have long been among the medical professionals who are authorized to certify disability for patients who apply for disabled parking privileges. In recent years, the ICS has interacted directly with the Secretary of State’s office on multiple occasions to ensure that all branch offices are correctly instructed to accept certification by chiropractic physicians.
Persons with disabilities must file a form in which the physician affirms that the applicant has a condition that qualifies him for special parking privileges. These conditions include severe lung disease; the need for portable oxygen; severe cardiac disease; inability to walk unassisted; and loss of a hand or arm or use of the hand or arm.
