Chiropractic physicians often work in small or solo practices and function not only as health care practitioners in their offices, but also as employers. Of course, hiring competent staff is a critical element to the management of any business, but it is particularly important in a small practice that cannot afford to absorb a lack of productivity among its few employees.
In interviewing job candidates, practice owners need to elicit information that will identify applicants who can best perform the job. During the interview process, physicians are required to observe the same hiring laws that apply to all other employers. In today’s highly regulated workplace environment, employers may be reluctant to ask important questions due to uncertainty about legal restrictions, potentially resulting in a less-than-optimal fit in a new hire.
