Whether you view managed care as a necessary evil, or simply as an integral part of doing business in today’s health care environment, most ICS members opt to participate in health plan provider networks. To be a network provider, you know that health plans require you to sign written agreements that govern the relationship between the provider and the plan.
Even though these agreements create binding, legal contracts, many providers sign them without reading them or knowing much of their contents. Doctors reason that they need to belong to the network to get business and insurers may be resistant to negotiating terms, so doctors believe they may as well sign, regardless of the particulars.
